Don and I have been collecting Santa Claus figures and nativities/nacimientos since the early 1960’s. Our primary interest was Santas until we moved to Texas. We especially like antique and vintage belsnickles and wood carved Santas by regional artists. Our nativities/nacimientos go all directions, from the usual to the somewhat comical. Polly Johnson |

This is representative of the work of the New Mexico artists. I bought this in Santa Fe a couple of years ago.

The large angel is by Angelica Vasquez
Cruz of Atzompa, Oaxaca. The small cone shaped piece is also by
her. We bought it in the late ‘70s and it is reversible from a
nacimiento (nativity) to the Last Supper. When she saw it, she told us
that it was one of her early pieces—it is not signed.
The small Virgin is by Josefina Aguilar
and the other Holy Family and King are from Peru. |

A few of our antique and vintage belsnickles and trees plus a few other chalkware ones and a couple of wood carvings by Pennsylvania and West Virginia artists. We have been collecting santas since the 1960s and now have quite a few.

This is the first nacimiento we purchased. We bought it in 1967. We don’t know the artist or the origin but have seen some similar to this one over the years. |

A few pieces from a sizeable market nativity from the Plaza Major in Madrid purchased over a number of Christmas seasons. These tiny 2-4“ tall pieces are sold in stalls and small stores throughout the year and represent every conceivable person or event that is possible. Over the years, we must have purchased hundreds of them!!
