March 2008 Collector's Corner |

I started my collection of Folk Art in 1980 with a cross from Santa Fe that I bought in Austin from a church that had been demolished. From that one piece, I began picking up many different things--santos, exvotos, retablos--all antique, and all from different places: Italy, New Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain, and Mexico. I also gradually began to incorporate some wonderful new pieces into the collection as well. I enjoy sharing my collection with people who appreciate religious art and its history. I have also collected many books--both new and old--that have helped to teach me the lives of the saints and their histories. They bring me peace just having them in my home and I feel that they bless it. Ann Bahan |
