Mexic-Arte Museum ExhibitionAztec and Maya Revival Exhibition
at the Mexic-Arte Museum

The Aztec and Maya Revival exhibition illustrates the resurgence of Pre-Columbian motifs and patterns in the modern art and culture of Mexico during the late 19th and early 20th century. Mexico developed this new style of art by appropriating the iconography of many of its Pre-Columbian ancestral groups, including but not limited to the Aztec and Maya cultures.

Investment opportunity in El Interior

Now that our fifth grandchild is nearing birth and Charlie and I want to spend more time on the West Coast, I’m looking for someone interested in investing in El Interior. Thanks to a wonderful manager and staff, and a corps of loyal customers, sales have never been better. Besides a secure and steady return on investment,  El Interior offers a number of benefits and pleasures that are as exciting as rewarding: Unique relationships with folk artists; travel to the most fascinating corners of Mexico and Guatemala; opportunities for creative marketing and social networking; and perhaps more important, the chance to see a world few others experience!  Feel good about supporting sustainable life styles!

If this is of interest, call my adviser, Gary Zolnierek, at 512.492.2381 or 512.340.0181. Gary’s email is garyz@vrtexascapital.com

Marcia's Minute

It is Summertime and relaxed living is what will keep you cool! Start byMarcia Lucas, owner wearing our new peasant or viejita blouses, made from the lightest, gauziest cotton. We've also received in some wonderful new Liz and Jane cotton separates, as well as Luna Luz sundresses and skirts. And, don't forget, we have cool guayaberas for the men to beat the summer heat with!

For the 4th of July entertaining, give your table a big splash of color with our Luscious New Mexican Oilcloth--we have more than 100 rolls Just In! This jubilant and practical material is great for not only covering outdoor tables, but for recovering outdoor chairs as well! Look below at the fantastic project that Dorian sent us pictures of in this month's mailbag. For tips on sewing oilcloth or its many uses, click on our oilcloth website page for more information.

And, don't forget, oilcloth bags are perfect for so many summer uses: we have small and large totes that are great for wet bathing suits, and out "diaper" bags are wonderful multi-purpose bags with lots of pockets that can be used for beach or gardening bags.

We also have some incredible new folk art in--everything from pottery from the Aguilar sisters to the wonderful new Oaxacan wood carvings that are featured in the newsletter this month. Additionally, we have a new selection of dishware from Gorky Gonzalez, which make terrific gifts.

Stop in soon--there is a lot to see, and we love seeing the familiar faces of our wonderful customers who keep coming back. Our Clarksville neighborhood is still one of the joys of Austin--a neighborhood that still evokes a small town feel. Stop by soon!

Saludos,
Marcia Lucas

Hi Amy,

Love the store. I finished my oilcloth table and TV trays (old garage sale finds) and was so excited at how cute they turned out. Just wanted to share them with the store that made it possible.

Love Dorian
