"This treasure was another birthday gift to myself from Textures, a store in San Antonio that only handles hand made items. Sadly, the artist didn't put a label in the back. Wouldn't you want to claim this as your own?"
  • Hand made jacket from San Antonio

"My 'Frida Kahlo' dress. Would you believe I ran into someone at a fancy party in Stonewall Texas also in this dress! Turned out to be Marcia, the owner of El Interior, and that was the beginning of a warm & wonderful friendship!"
  • Vintage, heavily embroidered, skirt and huipile. These are worn by the most famous and beautifully dressed indigenous women in all of Mexico, the Zapotec women of Juchitan and Tehuantepec, Oaxaca. The garment is for ceremonial occasions and takes months and months to hand embroider on a bastidor - something like a large quilting frame. This style of garment is what Frida Kahlo is famous for wearing all around New York & Paris.  More recently sighted on women in San Antonio , Austin, and at very fancy occasions in Washington D.C., such as the opening gala for the Museum of the American Indian.

"I have an extensive collection of these fabulous Oaxaca dresses. They are SO comfortable and becoming. Since I have never learned to "glow" like a lady (I sweat like a mule!), all the persperation can run down inside and no one is the wiser!"
  • A very beautiful rendition of the classic San Antonino, Oaxaca wedding dress. These dresses are becoming collectible as they become harder to come by. Very few young women are learning or have the time to spend on the delicate handwork of embroidery and crochet these dresses require. Most of the dresses El Interior comes across are done by the older grandmothers.
