Marcia's Minute

We
are planning a great spring line up of events
for you! First, we will have a trunk show of
Karen Wilkinson's latest creations, and then a
program with award winning photographer George O.
Jackson on Easter customs of some the most
remote villages in Mexico (March date to be
announced). After that, we will have the Bells
of Joy Concert on the Saturday before Easter, on
April 7th. The Fabulous Bells of Joy were
founded by the Littlefield brothers - all from
our Clarksville neighborhood!
After my recent trip to Guatemala, later this
month you should
look for a beautiful new selection of Guatemalan huipiles, (some of which are becoming scarce and
very "collectable") lots of beautiful yardage
for your projects, including upholstery fabric,
great casual dresses & tops and men's sport
shirts for our spring and summer weather in
beautiful lightweight hand loomed cottons.
Additionally, we have beaded jewelry from the
Lake Atitlan area in: Bracelets, Necklaces &
many NEW styles along with a nice collection of
mostly older silver earrings made for the Mayan
women.
The upcoming trunk show of Karen Wilkinson's latest designs
is truly exciting! This
nationally known fashion designer's latest work
features
her signature vintage Sarape jackets and vests in
cotton AND her exclusive line of Guatemalan jackets and
vests made only for El Interior, so you don't
want to miss it!
Saludos,
Marcia Lucas

El Interior Mailbag |
I love those carved wooden things called
molinillo, but what on earth is it used for?
Emily
Thanks for
your question Emily! A molinillo [moh-lee-NEE-oh],
pictured right,
is used in central
and southern Mexico, where people commonly drink
chocolate twice a day year-round. Having a layer of
foam on hot chocolate is as important today in
Mexico as it was in ancient times. Mexicans believe
the spirit of the drink is in the foam. The
molinillo, a carved wooden utensil, is used to whip
the hot chocolate to a froth. You hold the stick
between both hands, with the large end in the hot
chocolate, and quickly roll it back and forth
between your palms to create a froth. (reference: I'll Have What
They're Having - Legendary Local Cuisine, by

Marianna Craig

miniatures to create small altars. What a creative
