Marcia's Minute
Well,
we're just winding down from our trip to Mexico,
so all of the wonderful new things that I've
brought back with me will be gradually making
their way into the store throughout the next few
weeks. You'll see the beginning of this in our
New Arrivals page.
The trip was good, and in addition to the many
new clothing items you'll be seeing in the next
couple of weeks, we also have some Michoacan
green pottery pineapples and other folk art on
the way.
Also, while we were there, Charlie and I had
originally planned on scouting Oaxaca for
February festivals in preparation for our next
tour, but we realized that last year's tour
truly gave the most comprehensive and
well-rounded Oaxacan experience that we could
provide--so we will be shifting our focus back
to enjoying all that Oaxaca has to offer: the
music, folk art, food, culture and the people.
We had such a good time last year and received
such wonderful feedback! In any case, we will
nail down the details and an itinerary
soon, I promise!
So
all of you who wanted to go last year but
couldn't, here's your chance! Once again, here
is what Rose Ann Reeser,
one of the participants, wrote about it:
We loved every
minute of our week in Oaxaca with Marcia,
Charlie and our totally congenial group of
travelers. The B&B was lovely, with superb
Oaxacan specialties for breakfast every day.
Marcia guided us to the important historic ruins
of Monte Alban and Mitla and to the homes of
some of the best folk artists in the region. We
saw the artists at work, talked to them and
their families, and purchased exquisite works of
art for very reasonable prices.
When I look at the beautiful Gabino Reyes
carving of the agave with the tiny Virgen de
Guadalupe at its heart, I'm instantly
transported back to Gabino's family home where
we were so warmly welcomed.
Even with all the planned activities, Marcia
made sure to indulge individual travel goals
like seeing the "world's largest living biomass"
(an amazing tree) and mezcal made the old
fashioned way (an amazing process and product).
We spent leisurely afternoons exploring the city
and enjoying the evening scene at the zocalo. It
was a magical week.
You don't know Oaxaca 'til you've traveled there
with Marcia and Charlie. We highly recommend
this tour.
Saludos,
Marcia Lucas
