David Mercado, Artist

David Mercado is an artist who resides in Austin, Texas. In the beginning, his imagery was inspired by the surroundings of New Mexico, where he resided. Later, the beauty, strength, and movement of hummingbirds became his focus and gained him national recognition as an budding artist by their popularity. Within the last five years, Mercado has created an abstract collection which illustrates not only his range as an artist, but the depth and complexity of his work.

However, it is the striking imagery of Mercado's latest venture which reveals a much more personal side of the artist. His "Virgen de Guadalupe" series gives a profoundly intimate glimpse of the faith and heritage which has inspired him. The series boasts large, textured, and incredibly vivid paintings of the Virgin's image, along with the newest additions to this series: furniture. Chairs, chests, tables, lamps, and other furniture turn into beautiful canvases on which the Virgin of Guadalupe is featured.
